Guest Speaker at Meeting Tomorrow

Hello World

Welcome to week 2. As a reminder, tomorrow we are meeting as scheduled at 5pm in the Wilshire Room on the 4th floor. For those of you who are new to the campus, take the elevator to the fourth floor and we will be in the conference room near reception.

Goals:

We are to have a final design decided upon tomorrow night for last quarters project redesign of Meals On Wheels' website. Please get your designs uploaded to the drop box I have created. If you have not received an invite to the drop box, go to: https://www.dropbox.com/ and log into the club web account with the info I will provide at the end of this post.

We are having a guest speaker at the meeting tomorrow night, so if you can attend, please do. Our guest speaker is Sarah Carlson who is a member of the Interaction Design club that wants to start a mentoring program with the Web Design Department of The Art Institute of California -Hollywood. This is a great opportunity, so come hear about it first hand from Sarah. Last we spoke, she was hoping to have this organized for the end of April or mid May. It's a great way for Students of AiCAH to meet potential employers and possibly pick up an internship. The whole purpose of the meet up is to start a mentoring program where you can join up with a professional in your industry and create a long lasting relationship with a solid contact in the industry.

Thank-you and I hope to see some new faces tomorrow night.

Thank-you to everyone

Hello World

I wanted to take the time to say, Thank-you. This project has been a learning curve for us all and we have discovered some great talent in our club. This project is almost to a close and hopefully we can have it delivered to the client within the next few weeks.

Time to start thinking about the next quarter already.

Please put out the call to all web designers in the school to join the club and help create the online presence for Club Web. It's a great opportunity to get your finger print on something that could potentially last much longer than your time in Ai. The only way to get your input heard is by attending meetings.

I've heard that a lot of people are discouraged and think that because they missed the first few meetings, they can't attend or will be too late. This is not the case. I had two more students (one in her first quarter, the other in his 6th (?) quarter) join us two weeks before the end of the quarter. It's never too late to get your word in. We always have stuff to be done and by participating, you can put the things we do at Club Web on your RESUME! Remember Volunteer work looks great to employers, especially when you are providing a service to a non-profit.

Good luck on your finals and I hope to see you all next quarter!

Think you've got talent??? BRING IT!

It's Coming Together.

That's right world! The video has been shot, edited and now just needs some voice over and sound track added. Once that is finished we can focus our efforts on designing and coding the website.

Last week in the meeting we watched the raw footage that was shot at St. Vincent's Meals On Wheels, and we discussed the design and structure of the website redesign.

This week at the meeting I expect to have some composite designs for the site along with a color palate, and typography palate. Joe Shot some great photos for the site, and Violet is putting her talents to use to make the comps.

I hope to see more faces at this week's meeting.

As usual the meeting is Wednesday, March 3rd at 5:00pm in the Wilshire Room on the 4th Floor.

See you there.

Moving Forward

Hello World

This is a reminder that there will be a meeting Wednesday, February 17 at 5pm in the Wilshire Room 4th floor. We will be going over the video footage that was shot on Thursday. Now we need to focus on the design of the site. So please to those of you attending, bring some ideas for color palettes, moods, and themes. I am going to code a basic skeleton for the website that we can stylize together.

Also I want you all to think about a new name for the site. We have discussed that "feedasenior.com" sucks. Lets put on our thinking caps and get a new name that provokes some action. Think in terms of sites like "RockTheVote.com". Don't be shy, any idea will be given floor time.

See you Wednesday at 5 in the Wilshire Room.

New Logo!

Hello World,

I am proud to announce that we have a new logo for our club! Congratulations to Violet Koncz for winning the design contest. Watch for our logo to be displayed everywhere.

A couple of things,

I am waiting on confirmation from Patricia Barrett for a time for us to start filming in the StVMOW kitchen. We are hoping to shoot on Thursday the 11th at 8:30-9:00ish. And we still need some volunteers for the camera crew. I have asked Ann Kaneko to speak to her production class on Friday to see if anyone would like to volunteer. This call is open to anyone in any major.

And one last thing, on Wednesday Feb. 10th at 5pm, there will be a memorial for Frank Rios. It would be greatly appreciated by myself, faculty and the Rios Family if you could attend. Cookies and Refreshments will be served. Please dress appropriately if you plan on attending. This also means that we will NOT be having a Club Web meeting on Wednesday.

Cheers and have a good week!

End of January

Hello World.

I have created a list of "jobs" we need completed for the St. Vincent's Meals On Wheels project and sent them out to everyone in a google document. St. Vincent's Meals On Wheels needs us to rebuild a website that a previous Ai intern built for them called feedasenior.com. They have expressed that they have some specific content they would like to have on the site and an interest in an Ai made film about volunteering and to motivate people to volunteer. They would like the film to be 1-2 minutes long and completely shot and edited by Ai students (us). They would also like us to build a short animation of a "virtual bike-a-thon" where people can donate a certain amount and have the animated cyclist ride in a virtual marathon.

Club Web logo designer:

We have one submission so far and it would be great if we have a few to chose from and vote on. I am placing a cut off on the contest of February 3rd.

Frank Rios Memorial:

Terry Bailey has been able to set up a dedication ceremony for the late Frank Rios. The ceremony will consist of a large Fikas plant being commemorated to his memory in the student lounge on the 3rd floor. It will be February 17th and more details will follow as the time grows nearer as to what time it will be held.

Club Web news

Hello World!

First off I would like to thank everyone for coming and joining us at our first official meeting as Club Web on Wednesday. Joe and I spoke with Patricia Barrett on Thursday, and she was ecstatic, to say the least, that there were so many new faces (to her) that were interested in helping out St. Vincent's Meals on Wheels by building a website for them.

So that brings us into the nitty gritty of it all. We have some jobs that are going to need to be done and that need people to fill them. First off is a video production crew to make a promotional video about the Feed a Senior program SVMOW represents and about volunteering in the program.

We also need someone or a few of you to work on some flash animation and an interactive flash "game" which is basically a virtual bike-a-thon. I will have more details about that at the next meeting on Wednesday, January 27.

And the other jobs are to design, code and implement the web design for the new website. If anyone has the ability to create a database and link it to make it fully functional, this would be great! Our hopes are to make a log in area that allows users to personalize a calendar within the website and/or schedule volunteer hours with the Feed a Senior program.

This project sounds like it will be a lot of fun and a great experience for all of us! Please join us at the next meeting for more details and to volunteer for the jobs we have for the team.

When: January 27, 5pm
Where: Room 301
Who: everyone and anyone who has signed up for Club Web membership.

Welcome Back!

It's a new year and a new quarter of classes. Now that we are all settled in, the fun begins. Wednesday January 20th is our Grand Opening for Club Web, and for our Grand Opening, we are having Pizza! We also will be having a guest speaker to talk to us more about our upcoming project for St. Vincent's Meals on Wheels. Patricia Barrett will be joining us at our meeting and I hope you will too.

Please don't be shy. Bring a friend and learn about our new project too. The meeting will be held on the 3rd floor as of now, but I am still awaiting confirmation on that. Please check back soon for more details about location. As of right now we are meeting at 5pm on the 3rd floor of the AiCAH campus.

Hope to see you there.
